Career Path
Miguel Ángel Valdés Faz is a partner at AV&M, a Monterrey-based law firm. He has more than 25 years of experience advising domestic and international companies in the areas of corporate law, foreign investment, mergers and acquisitions, commercial contracting, environmental law, and international trade, with particular expertise in manufacturing structures operating under IMMEX (maquiladora) programs.
Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous projects involving the structuring of foreign investments in Mexico, environmental regulatory compliance, legal due diligence, and industrial development projects. He has advised more than 50 Chinese and Asian companies on their operations in Mexico, including the preparation of legal opinions for stock exchange listings in Asia.
Before co-founding his current firm, he was an international partner at Thompson & Knight LLP from 2003 to 2011, and previously served as partner at Rojas, González, de la Garza, Maldonado & Valdés from 1995 to 2003. Prior to that, he was associated with Margáin, Santos, Rojas, González, Vargas, S.C. between 1991 and 1995.
He graduated from the Facultad Libre de Derecho de Monterrey and holds postgraduate studies (LL.M.) from the University of Illinois and Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León. In addition, he has completed executive programs and specialized studies at Tecnológico de Monterrey, Georgetown University, and Harvard Law School.
